About the Author
Trevor has practised T'ai Chi for over 30 years and is a
registered TCUGB Instructor, a fully accredited
traditional Sun style Instructor with the Deyin Taiji
Institute, and an Affiliated Master Instructor with the
AMAA. As well as teaching traditional styles, he has had
16 years experience of teaching Dr Paul Lam's T'ai Chi
for Health Programs for Arthritis, Back Pain, Diabetes,
Osteoporosis and Falls Prevention.
Trevor's passion is 'T'ai Chi for All Ages & Abilities',
teaching several regular traditional and health T'ai Chi
groups in the Forest of Dean in the UK and also
specialist care home programs. He has taught workshops around the UK and regularly
gives talks and demonstrations to health support groups and community organisations.
Trevor is a retired professional engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering
and Technology. Following a 14 year technical career in the RAF, he then spent over
35 years travelling world-wide as a specialist engineering trainer and technical writer.
His T'ai Chi journey started when he was In his late thirties, initially to manage and
control his own chronic back problems. With health limitations of his own, he has found
and developed an ability to empathise with others who have disabilities at any level.
In 2001, encouraged by meeting and training with Dr Paul Lam, Trevor formed Crystal
T’ai Chi to pass on his personal experiences and benefits that he obtained from T'ai
Chi to people of any age or ability level, and since then he has fully endorsed all of Dr
Lam's T'ai Chi for Health Programs which actively encourage mixed ability/age group
sessions. Over the years he has also assisted Dr Lam as a trainer at UK leader
workshops, has written articles published on his website., and was acknowledged in
Dr Lam's book "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively"
Trevor's early T'ai Chi training was in Yang style, but after using studying and using
modified Sun style forms to support health problems, his main focus turned to
traditional Sun style T'ai Chi. After initially studying the form under Dr Paul Lam he has
since been mentored and supported by Professor Li Deyin's daughter Faye Yip and
other Sun style Masters who have been disciples of Sun Lutang's daughter, Sun Jian
Yun. He practises and teaches traditional Sun hand forms (the original 97 step long
form, Sun Jian Yun's 42 step, Deyin 13 and 38 step, and the 73 step competition form).
Additionally he also practises and teaches the 108 step Long Yang style hand form
that started his T'ai Chi journey many years ago, together with Jian (sword), Dao
(sabre) and Shan (fan) forms. Qi Gong also plays a major role in all his teaching.
In 2010 Trevor created his own modified program (Twilight T'ai Chi) based on T'ai Chi
and Qi Gong movements that he uses with great success with the elderly in care
homes, many suffering from dementia and other age-related illness.
