The aim of my web site is to simplify the mystique of T’ai Chi. l leave the detailed theoretical, aesthetic and philosophical discussion to those more qualified to comment than I am. This intermediate level fan form was passed verbally to my teacher Sifu Dan Jones of the USA many years ago by its creator, his teacher.
Although T’ai Chi Fan forms are primarily weapon forms, this version with its graceful, centred movements, and its predominant use of the “praying” position supplemented by thrusts and strikes, clearly reflects the opposites and harmony of Yin and Yang.
The form maintains an upright posture. Its rotating arm and balancing movements provide
additional conventional exercise, and the extension of the arm into the fan allows
a powerful increase in Chi experience.
This intermediate Yang style straight sword form is a beautiful, interesting and graceful form to practice, good for our health and for extending our existing T’ai Chi balance.
We teach sword form for the above values, and often a walking stick is substituted for the sword by those who dislike the weapon association.
