To improve my own technique I discovered a series of videos by Dr Paul Lam. My attention was drawn to his program developed in conjunction with the Arthritis Council of Australia, to help people of all ages and levels of disability to enjoy the benefits of T’ai Chi. This program was specially designed to offer better safety and more effective healing. It can also be tailored to the requirements of those people who are older and may not wish to learn the more difficult T’ai Chi forms or their martial art aspects. Dr Lam’s program has also been accredited by the Arthritis Association in the USA and is about to receive UK recognition. Dr Paul has further enhanced this program to help alleviate backpain has also developed other specialist forms beneficial for all ages including one for help and potential prevention of diabetes.

I was fortunate to be able to attend Dr Lam’s first UK training workshop, and with his tuition have become an Approved Instructor for his T'ai Chi for Arthritis and his T'ai Chi for Diabetes programs, and would like to pass on to others the benefits gained by me from T’ai Chi.

I have since attended other workshops run by Dr Lam including T'ai Chi for Diabetes and a Sun Style 73 Master Class in the US where my primary teacher was Master Kam Lau Fung, who has won an amazing 6 gold medals in international competitions.

I am a registered member of the Martial Arts & Fitness Coach UK (MAFUK) and fully insured as an instructor. My classes are conducted using Dr Lam’s specialised Sun form and associated Qi Gong exercises to introduce the great benefits that can be offered to all ages by T’ai Chi. Students can then progress by adding more demanding Sun movements or if they wish, by learning the complete Sun style 73 or Long Yang, sword and fan forms.

Please note that, although practicing T’ai Chi daily, I do not teach offensive or defensive Martial Arts.

Instructors

I am by profession an electronics engineer and have been a technical author and trainer for over 30 years. I have travelled the world training engineers, and it was during my many visits to China, Hong Kong and Taiwan that I was introduced to the benefits of T’ai Chi.

I am coeliac with arthritic spinal deterioration, and have been practicing Yang style for several years, finding it beneficial to alleviate my own symptoms, however I had noticed that in the classes in which I had participated, although set a general level and not aimed at Martial Arts, there was a high drop out rate in the first few weeks. This was due to a large proportion of people who were drawn to T’ai Chi with great expectations, but soon discovered that even a simple basic form appeared too severe for them.
